This workshop is designed to explain the fundamental reasons for a painting’s success. The workshop will combine extensive lectures, slide presentations, and demonstrations with shorter studio sessions. Students will begin to learn and understand vital concepts and philosophies of painting, and then begin to put this knowledge into practice, which they can continue at home. Concepts
covered will include local tone, light and shadow, and dark light pattern. There will be individual instruction, and
exercises that will give you first-hand experience of the terms discussed. This class is for all students, no matter what style or subject they work with, or what level they are. Students will work from life, including still life, figure, and landscape subjects.
Instructor -- Kevin Weckbach
KEVIN WECKBACH studied at Rocky Mountain College of Art and Design and later attended The Art Students League of Denver. Kevin recently illustrated a new edition of Emily Bronte’s Wuthering Heights for Micawber Fine Editions. His watercolor illustrations for the novel were featured in Southwest Art Magazine. Artist Mark Daily says "Kevin has attracted top-level students from the very start because of his own amazing talent, his innate artistic nature, and his willingness to focus his teaching on artistic development. To have him is a terrific opportunity for Scottsdale Artists’ School students.”
Weckbach’s work is exhibited nationally and is represented by several galleries, including Wendt Gallery in Laguna Beach, CA, Pinon Fine Art in Denver, CO, Mad Creek Gallery in Steamboat Springs, CO, Jack Meier Gallery in Houston, TX, and Left Bank in Wellfleet, MA.
