In this learn-by-painting workshop, the artist will focus on impressionistic florals and still life oil painting. Basic concepts of composition will be explored in addition to sources for ideas on subject matter, how to arrange and paint from set-ups, and the application of “lay-ins”. Students will cover the effective use of light and value in creating vivid and lively subjects, and soft and hard edges in and around the focal point.
Instructor -- Hedi Moran
Hedi Moran studied at the Art Students League of Los Angeles and the Scottsdale Artists’ School. Noted for her rich and lively colors as well as freshness and spontaneity, her still life paintings have won numerous awards. Her work has been featured in The Best of Flower Painting, Art of the West, Focus Santa Fe, and Kunst for Alle, a leading Scandinavian art magazine. She is represented by El Presidio Gallery in Tucson, Christina Gallery in Martha’s Vineyard, and the New Masters Gallery in Carmel.
- COLORS: Titanium White; Winsor-Newton Indian Yellow (T); Cadmium Lemon; Cadmium Yellow Light; Cadmium Orange; Cadmium Red Light or Cadmium Scarlet; Alizarin Crimson (T); Permanent Rose (T); Winsor Violet (T); Ultramarine Blue (T); Sap Green (T); Viridian; Indigo (T); Ice Blue (Shiva); Transparent Red Oxide (Rembrandt) (T). **Any other colors you are used to painting with.** “T” = transparent colors
- CANVAS: I like to put a coat of gesso on my cotton canvas- I tint my gesso with a little black acrylic to make a mid value gray. Any size up to 20" x 24"
- BRUSHES: Whatever kind of brushes you like. I use soft bristle, synthetic sables and filberts.
