This workshop will cover the fundamentals of composition, color and value as the basis for painting successful landscapes. Working from both photo references in the studio and from life out on location, it is the aim of the instructor to help each individual develop greater skills of observation, greater competency in studio, and successful plein aire techniques. Poon will provide photo references for students. Please note that plein aire locations may be a 15-45 minute drive from the School. Portable easel and transportation are required.
Instructor -- John Poon
John Poon has been a working artist for over 20 years. He graduated from the Academy of Art College in San Francisco, and later stayed on as an instructor. He served as Director of Foundations overseeing classes in Drawing, Sketching, Perspective, and Color and Design. He now makes his home in Liberty, Ut, with his wife and six children. John is represented by the Walls Gallery in NC; Legacy Gallery, WY; and the Garden Gallery in Half Moon Bay, CA.
- Colors: Cadmium Yellow Lemon (Utrecht) or Cadmium Yellow Light (Gamblin); Cadmium Red Medium (Utrecht); Ultramarine Blue; Manganese Blue Hue; Alizarin Crimson; Burnt Sienna; Titanium White
- Canvas/ Canvas Boards: 3-4 Canvas Board (6x8); 10-12 Small Canvas or Canvas Boards (8x10- 12x16)
- Brushes: Small, Medium, Large Brights, Flats and Filberts (Bristols or Synthetic Blend); Small Round #6 or #8 (Sable)
- Miscellaneous: Portable Easel w/ Palette; Palette Knife; Portable Turp Can w/ Turpenoid or Gamsol; Turpenoid Natural or other Brush Cleaner; Plastic Grocery Bags (For garbage); Paper Towels; Liquin
