Learn the discipline of skillfull drawing as a foundation for success in creating quality art. Discover the principle of accurate value and tonal knowledge making your paintings more believable and exceptional. Find color to be the complex and challenging power to unlock truth, beauty and personality on your artistic journey. Put your skills to the test by working from live models in native American and period costume. So, come along with me, open yourself to all the tools of the craft, then make your quest to love the West!

Instructor -- R. S. Riddick
R. S. Riddick studied at Chouinier Art Institute, the Art Center College of Design, Los Angeles, CA and the Santa Monica City College. He was invited to join the Cowboy Artists of America in 1997 and as an out of state member of the California Art Club. He participates in the Cowboy Artists of America Show and Sale at Phoenix Art Museum, Phoenix, AZ and the Prix de West Show and Sale at the National Cowboy and Western Heritage Museum, Oklahoma City, OK. He has been teaching art since 1982.

  • Oil Colors: Titanium White (a lot); Cadmium Lemon Yellow; Cadmium Yellow Light; Cadmium Yellow Deep (or Med); Cadmium Orange; Cadmium Red Light; Grumbacher Red; Cadmiun Red Medium; Rose Madder (or Alizarin Crimson); Violet; Ultramarine Blue; Cobalt Blue; Cerulean Blue; Viridian; Permanent Green Light; Naples Yellow; Yellow Ochre; Burnt Sienna; Terra Rosa (or Venetian Red); Raw Umber; Ivory Black
  • Additional Colors (Optional): Thalo Rose (Grumbacher); Sap Green
  • Brushes: #10, #10, #6, #4 Filbert Bristle. Have a variety of Flats and Rounds in Bristle and Synthetic Sable to suit personal taste.
  • Palette Knifes - variety of them
  • Soft Charcoal (optional)
  • Canvas (no canvas boards) - Three to Six of the following sizes:
  • 1 or 2 small - 12 x 16
  • 1 or 2 medium 16 x 20
  • 1 or 2 large 18 x 24
  • Sketch and/or notepad book
  • Good size palette - Please no small palettes, avoid paper unless well secured to palette surface.
  • Synthetic/Odorless Turps
  • Peper Towels - sufficient supply
  • Painting Medium - personal
