Ever wonder if the artist standing next to you is seeing something in the figure that you’re not? Knowing what to look for is crucial in achieving excellence in figure drawing. In this class, you’ll receive a set of visual tools that will permanently be yours to approach drawing any figure with confidence and direction. Students will explore what it means to simplify complex shapes and forms and how to see the figure as a whole before seeing its parts. The use of values in the creation of form will be explained, and the relationships between line, values and edges will be sorted out. Students will also learn about the human anatomy without having to learn every muscle in the body. Understanding negative shapes will be employed to aid with those pesky fore-shortened poses. There will be group and individual demonstrations, as well as some lecture with visual presentations.
