This landscape class will emphasize working from life. Most of the class time will be spent painting on location. After meeting the first day at Scotts¬dale Artists’ School, the class will be based out of Gold Canyon, Arizona, which will allow for closer proximity to painting locations. We will cover the process of gathering essential information and editing in the field. The im¬portance of how you start the painting will be stressed since a correct start makes the entire process less difficult. We’ll also cover the importance of a solid foundation in design, drawing, val¬ues and color. Please come prepared with the supplies to do at least two paintings a day. Individual attention, demos, and some laughter are included in the cost! Portable easel and transportation required. Students are encouraged to consider accommodations in Gold Canyon, Arizona - which is about 40 minutes from the Sky Harbor International Airport, and over one hour from the School.

  • Please be prepared for changing weather conditions.
  • Paint Colors: The following colors are the palette I use. Any brand of professional grade paint you prefer is fine. I do not require that you purchase all of them, but I would prefer if you bring at least the first five colors: Ultramarine Blue; Cadmium Orange; Alizarin Crimson; Titanium White; Cadmium Yellow; Cadmium Yellow Lemon Burnt Sienna; Cadmium Yellow Cobalt Blue; Yellow Ochre Sap Green; Cadmium Red Light Viridian; Thalo Yellow Green
