Studying the human figure is often a life-long endeavor for any artist. Full of varying forms that create unique lines and values, the human body can provide opportunities to render expressively and explore a range of mark-making possibilities. It can also be a daunting structure for any new artist to try and recreate. This class is set up to provide some methods and tools for approaching this challenging task of rendering the human form. Working from a live model each week, students will study proportion, gesture, and anatomy to better understand and recreate the complex structure of the human body. Using traditional techniques and materials, students will look to gain a sense of volume and form, and create credible figures from observation.
