SUPPLIES:
This workshop is cross disciplinary, please bring whatever medium you prefer to work with. The school will make available any additional materials for participants to explore. Come prepared to work outside. Easels can be provided, but bringing your own setup of choice is preferable.
We recommend assembling the following kits:
Drawing/Sketching Kit
Sketchbook, graphite pencils, sharpener, rulers, drawing board or clip board
Painting Kit
You are welcome to use the medium of your choice.
Below you will find supply lists for both oils and gouache.
Easel Types:
-French easel- heavy and large to carry, but stable
-Field Easel- lightweight and compact, but need to be weighed down for stability
(ex: Napoli easel)
-Pochade Box- Stable and useful, most require a tripod, and they can be expensive.
(Open Box M, Strada Easel, Edge Pro easel, Guerilla Painter, En Plein Air
Pro, New Wave pochade, Cup Palette. I currently use a Strada Easel with a tripod or a DayTripper setup made by Prolific Painter.)
You are free to bring any setup that you already have or are comfortable with, but remember that you may have to carry it a little ways to the painting location from the parking lot. I would recommend trying out your setup before class, even if just in your own yard.

Oil Painting:
Solvent: Gamsol
Medium: Galkyd Light OR your medium of choice.
Small sealable jars to carry solvent and mediums.

Painting Surfaces:
Please bring whatever you are comfortable painting on and make sure you have multiples! We will be working on many smaller field studies, as well as larger works in the studio. Arches Oil Paper pads (9x12, 12x16) and single sheets 16 x 20 are wonderful. Stretched canvas and panels are also good.
Oil Paint:
Any brand you have already or prefer to use is fine, Gamblin is a high quality and affordable brand. Williamsburg Paints are wonderful, but more expensive.
Be sure to have an assortment of colors and you can add more to your palette if needed throughout the duration of the workshop.

Plein Air Painting in Gouache
The simplest setup is just a compact folding chair,
like listed below, and a watercolor sketchbook and your gouache paints and brushes.
Your gouache set up can be just a small chair, paints and brushes, and a panel/board to tape your watercolor paper onto.
