Learn techniques to enhance the depth of color and overall impact of your pastel work using a multi-colored underpainting of watercolor overlaid with bold layers of pastel. Working from inspiring still-life set ups containing richly colored summer fruits, luminous flowers, ceramics, and drapery, you complete multiple studies and several finished pieces practicing accurate drawing and basic pastel techniques, and exploring in depth the subtle interplay between relative tonal values and the successful use of color. You imbue your work with new life and energy, discovering which elements are truly essential, and how to balance finished detail with freshness and spontaneity.

  • *NOTE: There will be a $20 Materials Fee collected at the first class to cover the costs of materials bought in bulk by the Instructor to keep student costs down (these are in addition to the materials listed below which are the students’ responsibility). All materials will be shown and discussed at the first class, so if you are not sure about anything make sure it is returnable and don’t use/open it until we meet.
