In this intensive workshop you will learn to draw with greater accuracy, efficiency, and confidence, to transform a complex subject into a dynamic image using strong forms, incisive line, and simplified areas of dark and light. We will be working with the striking, high contrast mixed media of charcoal and white chalk on brown paper, moving from a review of drawing basics including the rendering of volumetric forms with light and shadow, to brief sketches and several finished works of inspiring still-life set ups including fruit, flowers, ceramics, shiny metal and transparent glass. You develop skills judging what is and is not essential, when to use hard vs soft edges, compositional choices, and techniques to create texture, atmosphere, volume, and space in your drawing as you begin to uncover your own personal style.

  • *NOTE: There is a $20 Materials Fee payable to the Instructor to help cover the cost of additional materials bought in bulk by the Instructor to keep student costs down (this is in addition to the materials on the Gage website Supply List which are the students’ responsibility). ?Please contact me with any questions: tfurchgott@gmail.com
