The First World War, called “The Great War” by the generation that experienced it was the greatest man-made catastrophe in the history of the world and the seminal incident in modern history. The optimistic, forward looking Nineteenth Century ended and the nations of the world spiraled down into a whirlpool of blood, fire, death and hatreds that endured throughout the 20th Century and beyond. This presentation will briefly discuss the causes of this war, the way it was conducted and the aftermath that followed.

This course is open to guests of members.
