Using a helpful textbook and specially curated YouTube videos, Mr. Kaplan teaches Spanish in a fun, interactive, and very effective way. This class will be the first semester of a year-long class. We will start at the very beginning with pronunciation of vowels, consonants, and words. We will then learn and practice basic grammar using a textbook and exercises, PowerPoint presentations, and videos. This class will focus first on the present tense and later the past, future, conditional, and other tenses and commands. No homework or tests. Just sit back and listen as we do grammar exercises, watch Spanish language videos, and speak in Spanish to each other. Each semester picks up where the last semester ended. It’s an easy way to learn how to speak the second most spoken language in America. Learning a foreign language has also been shown to delay or reduce the onset of dementia.

Part 1 (Fall): We cover basic grammar like "el" and "la", los, las, adjectives, subject pronouns, pronunciation of vowels and consonants, the verbs "ser" and "estar", and the present tense (regular and irregular verbs). We watch many Spanish-language videos and practice aloud exercises in the textbook. No prior experience in Spanish is needed for this semester.

This course will consist of discussions between the Study Leader and participants.
