Strings, Stories, and Tradition: Bluegrass Music (IP)

Bluegrass music has become a world-renowned musical phenomenon and has a rich history — even around the world. We will trace its roots from the Anglo-Appalachian tradition through its development by Bill Monroe and onto the varied forms that it has today. Like the blues, it is an American musical contribution that we have all come to enjoy. We will view YouTubes of the songs and artists and hear local performers give their takes on bluegrass. We will share our experiences with the music and the culture, and all are invited to take part. This course will combine lecture with class discussions. There are no required books for this course.
