The short story, one of the hardest literary genres to write, provides readers with classic themes in short, but memorable forms. Twentieth century authors like Ernest Hemingway and John Cheever, among others, have perfected the genre, making it one of the most rewarding to read. In this class, three or four stories will be sampled, all outstanding examples of the genre. The stories’ content, characters, style, and presentation will be discussed, leading to a deeper understanding and appreciation of the form. The Study Leader will provide links to the stories.

This course will combine lecture with class discussions.
