Follow the Music: A Journey Through Germany (In-person)
Winter (4 - 8.5 hours) | Registration opens 11/23/2026 12:00 AM EDT
Come along on a musical journey! Over four weeks we will crisscross the German-speaking lands, stopping in the cities where Hildegard von Bingen, Bach, Mozart, Beethoven, Schumann, Wagner, Brahms, Strauss, Weill, and others lived and worked. But this isn't simply a tour of famous composers. We'll explore how Germany's churches, royal courts, political upheavals, nationalism, and cultural revolutions influenced the music being created around them. From Hildegard’s Rhineland to Beethoven's Bonn, Wagner's Bayreuth, and the vibrant—and ultimately tragic—musical world of Weimar Berlin, we'll examine how the changing history of Germany can be heard in its music.
