In this course, we will explore five 20th century works of fiction that remain pivotal in literature and the broader culture, even though they are rarely read by modern audiences. We will discuss each book in the context of its time, consider its relevance today, and examine the curious place it now holds in the literary imagination. Each session will include background on the featured work. The course will be as participant-driven as possible. Together, we will create a conversation that is thoughtful, informed, and engaging. The course will be erudite, while still feeling casual and welcoming.
