Phil Starke’s focus will be on helping students simplify the plein air subject and mix colors that suggest light not detail. Two of the most important aspects to plein air painting are creating a strong, expressive design and understanding how to interpret color outdoors. Students will focus on developing a sense of design and rhythm, learning to take what the landscape gives them and improve upon it. While staying at the Tubac Golf Resort, a restored 1800’s ranch, students will be near the Santa Rita Mountains on the Santa Cruz River. The historic village of Tubac provides old adobe buildings and street scenes to paint. Nearby, students will paint the beautiful Spanish Church built in 1828 at the Tumacacori Mission. Phil will demonstrate and give plenty of individual attention. There will also be slide shows in the evenings, group critiques and dinners, and sunrise painting for early risers… This is a week of art immersion! www.philstarke.com
