This time-tested curriculum is designed to help students develop a better understanding of the fundamentals of color, composition, value, paint application, and atmospheric perspective pertaining to landscape painting. Discussions on design will focus on the subjects of emphasis and pattern, with a goal to create more dynamic compositions. Students will also learn a reliable, step-by-step system for creating larger studio works from start to finish, with a working knowledge of color and value. In addition to any prerequisite studies, this workshop will set as a goal one to three completed paintings for the week depending on the size of the canvas. Instruction will include lecture and slide presentation, demonstrations, critiques, and one-on-one time with each student. The principles taught apply universally to a variety of mediums, and though demos will be done in acrylics, all mediums are welcome.
