In this three-hour workshop, Shana and David will go through the different equipment such as cameras, lights, and software that they use to capture beautifully clear photo reference that mimic the information that artists would have when drawing or painting from a live model. They fully describe the benefits of working with strobe lights to capture natural lighting on the model even with many different strong chiaroscuro lighting conditions. Discussion will also revolve around the pitfalls of photography and how to fully understand all aspects of what one is capturing in one’s painting. Students will leave this workshop with many quality photo references of their own to work with. This information is invaluable to those artists that work on commissioned portraits as well as personal paintings. www.davidkassan.com www.shanalevenson.com

Kassan, David Jon

David Jon Kassan's paintings strive for reality, a chance to mimic life in both scale and complexity. Kassan's direction of realism follows the philosophies employed by the Ashcan School of American Realists. His influences are varied; citing Robert Henri and John Sloan as his primary influences on philosophy and subject matter. As for style and technique, he cites Antonio Lopez Garcia, Mark Rothko, Franz Kline, and Clyfford Still as influences as well. http://www.youtube.com/user/DavidJonKassan
