Still Life: Composition and Painting:
This workshop will explore a powerful and rational approach to still life composition and oil painting techniques with brushes and palette knives. David adjusts his advice according to each person’s ability – from raw beginner to advanced professional. However, more advanced students will find it easier to focus on the subtleties of composition. A solid drawing background is highly recommended.
Friday: Composition! David will work individually with each student to compose a still life setup. Students will methodically build compositions with a powerful sense of focus. David encourages students to listen to the composition problems faced by fellow students – it is a great way to learn. After everyone has a good setup, David will explain his own composition and then will begin a painting demonstration while answering any questions. After this primer, students will begin their own paintings. David will methodically circulate to help each individual.
Saturday and Sunday: Students will continue to paint and instructor will circulate. David will periodically return to his demonstration. However, priority is given to student work time so that David can give practical individual advice. Students may choose to create a new composition everyday if desired, or may dig in and explore the finishing stages.
