Traditionally, still life consists of arranging objects for their decorative value and thematic qualities, this class will look at things a little differently. The focus of this two-day class will be on designing powerful compositions using simple objects. By grouping sometimes unrelated things, from unusual vantage points, attention is drawn to the movement and abstract quality of shapes. The resulting paintings will have a cleaner, streamlined appearance. The class will be painting in a square format, experimenting with textural effects. Setting up objects for the contemporary still life will be discussed. Diane will demonstrate preparing the baltic birch panels she uses in her work. Students will paint from various still life photos, provided by Diane. There will be plenty of one- on-one instruction throughout the day with demonstrations as needed to clarify concepts. www.dianeeugsterart.com
