This workshop will focus on interior “landscapes.” Working from interesting photos that capture the unique light and space of an interior, students will concentrate on the relationships of objects and light to create compositions that tell the story of the room. Time will be allocated for fast studies as well as longer painting sessions devoted to more finished paintings. The fast studies will allow students to “stay loose” with lots of energy, and the longer painting sessions will help students resolve issues and details to a more finished piece. Focus will be on composition, brushwork, values, edges and color mixing. Students should bring their own photos of rooms that are personal to them or that they find inspiring – emphasis should be on interesting light, color or space. Photos can be of the interiors of homes, restaurants, museums...whatever space feels exciting to the student. www.juleehutchison.com

Hutchison, Julee

Julee (Frey) Hutchison was born in a suburb north of Chicago. She attended college in Ohio and lived 23 years in Arizona. Shortly after moving to Phoenix, Julee met her husband, Steve, a copywriter, and together they started their own graphic design and writing business. Julee began to take classes at the Scottsdale Artists’ School and eventually enrolled in a number of week-long workshops instructed by exceptional guest artists. Her love of nature and animals led her to plein air landscape painting. It was this love for nature that was a critical part of her and her husband’s decision to move to Telluride, Colorado. Julee paints plein air with the wonderful spirit of Roxie, their beloved St. Bernard and now Sterling, also a St. Bernard, who loves to go painting as long as it also involves a marrow bone to help pass the time. Julee is currently exhibiting with the Telluride Gallery of Fine Art, Telluride, Colorado and Mockingbird Gallery, Bend, Oregon.
