This workshop will use still life as a means to study light, the artist’s greatest gift. Using the Russian Impressionist tradition of comparing and contrasting, students will paint indoors in both warm and cool light. The emphasis will be on putting warm and cool colors next to each other in such a way that creates a sense of radiant light and harmonious color unity no matter what the subject matter. Make colors SING! Students will spend time examining photo references to become familiar with the evidence of warm or cool light. Seventeen different light effects that happen out in the real world will be examined along with the color of the shadows and the shaping features. Think of this workshop as the study of light...beyond the plaster cast. www.diehlfineart.com
