Discussing their environment, behaviors, and life span. All of these things can play a huge role in the shape and character of an animal. Understanding these things can give personality to the sculpture and help bring it to life students are encouraged to bring reference material if they want to sculpt a particular animal. Paolo will also have references available for students. All clay and tools will be provided in the workshop and students will be able to keep the tools. www.paoloacuna.com

Acuna, Paolo

Paolo began his professional artistic journey in his early 20’s. Fortunate enough to grow up mostly in Alaska, Paolo was exposed to many different artistic influences. Most of which were from the native American artists that lived and worked in the area. Paolo learned carving techniques from local Alaskan artists that would be applied to stone, bone, horn, ivory and wood. Paolo worked with these techniques selling artwork in galleries for years. Until it felt like more growth and understanding was needed. In his early 30’s Paolo felt the urge to keep learning and decided to start traveling to Europe to study with many different artists. He spent time in Italy learning marble carving techniques. Spent many years traveling back and forth to study and immerse himself in tattooing and painting with fellow professional artists in Europe. Paolo has been a full time tattoo artist for 25 years. The art of tattooing has taken him to many parts of the world, to draw, paint and tattoo. Paolo has also studied with many artists in north America and has been a student at Scottsdale Artist School for painting and sculpture. Working in many different mediums is what keeps things interesting for Paolo. From carving stone to painting portraits or figure studies and the art of tattooing.
