This exciting two-day class for oil painters is designed to give the artist a really useful method of color mixing to achieve consistent, harmonious paintings, and to then apply those skills to palette knife painting.

Day One: Students will learn how to use only six oil colors (plus white) to create every color of paint previously purchased one tube at a time. Using this method will set the artist on the way to mastering color temperature, values, and intensity. Note: It is imperative to purchase the exact oil colors given in the supply list. It is also important to use the same brand of paint. (I recommend Utrecht Studio Series.)

Day Two: Students will use the lessons on color from day one and focus on reinforcing traditional fundamentals including; values, temperature management, large masses, focal point emphasis, simplification of detail and soft edges…all with a palette knife! No brushesallowed. Learn to identify and solve “problems” ahead of time to ensure beautiful results. Students may use their own well-composed landscape, cityscape or seascape photographs, or use some provided by the instructor. Each student paints his or her own chosen subject matter. Palmer-Jones, Renee

Renee Palmer Jones was born in Denver, Colorado and now resides in Phoenix, Arizona. Her works are multidisciplinary; spanning palette knife impasto expressionism to the design and building of outdoor public sculptures and veterans memorials across the country. She is an award-winning artist and recipient of the 2014 National Daughters of the American Revolution Women in Arts Award, 2013 Arizona Public Works Assn. Grand Design Award and her Anthem Veterans Memorial is now a State of Arizona Historic Site. She has studied under many masters from the Scottsdale Artists’ School and the Art Students League of Denver. This exposure inspired the artist to focus her education on the fundamentals of classical painting. She traveled to Europe repeatedly to study brush strokes within the halls of the Musee’ D’Orsay, the Louvre, Giverny, the Vatican, the Hermitage and many others. She explains, “I love to sit and stare at the great works of the Impressionists and great Masters. The printed image of a painting in a book tells no stories of flourish, emotion, and passion flowing from the artists. I had to see these wonderful paintings for myself, to absorb their processes and learn from the strokes that bring them to life.” Her work has been featured in Infinity Magazine, Images AZ magazine, the Arizona Republic, and 85087 magazine among others. Renee’s artwork has also been shown in the SAS Best and Brightest, Fresh Paint and Beaux Arts. Her work is represented by The Art Department in Scottsdale, AZ., at the Spur Cross Art Gallery in Cave Creek, AZ and on her website, RPJFineArt.com. She was a featured artist on “Good Morning Arizona” in 2008. Her works are collected privately and publicly across the country. Renee co-founded the North Valley Arts Council in 2004 and created programming, education, and scholarships for young Arizona artists. She enjoys conducting invigorating painting workshops in the United States, Canada, and Mexico for adults of all skill levels.
