Thursday | 10AM-2PM Mountain Standard Time | ONLINE! On Zoom and Facebook.

Are you a painter who struggles with still life setup and
composition? You’re not alone!
In this one-day workshop, you’ll learn Sarah’s technique for
thumbnail sketches - and how to make them work for you. Get
tips for setting up a successful still life, and work from Sarah’s
reference photos, or create your own, and work from life in your
home studio! A slideshow and painting demo will be followed by
a Q & A, and you’ll have ten days to complete the assignment
and share it on our Facebook page, for feedback. A recording of
the demo will also be accessible on the Facebook page.
Working with a thumbnail sketch in pencil, ballpoint pen, or
sharpie, you’ll move on to a black and white value study in paint.
Instruction will be in oils, but acrylics are also welcome. You’ll mix
a 5 step value scale, and focus on working from the general to the
specific, seeing the big value shapes in your still life, and using
them as building blocks to create your composition.
