Using Cultural Understanding in School Communication

This module explores how the conflicts of differing home and school cultural norms affect ELLs. You learn how to apply acquired knowledge about these differing norms, as well a deeper understanding of the interrelationship between language and culture and how these can be used to enhance home/school communication.

List cultural conflicts between home and school and reflect on how
to deal with these in a manner that honors the ELL's learner and
home cultural needs.
Demonstrate the ability to understand and apply knowledge about
communication between home and school to enhance ELL's
learning.
Utilize various resources to learn about interrelationship between
culture and language.

  • Introduction to Culture in the Classroom is a prerequisite to this module. Please do not sign up for this class if you have not signed up for/taken the prerequisite.
