Capture highly detailed scenes and learn how to create contour drawings, grisaille underpaintings, and watercolor glazes. Simplify complex scenes into initial sketches that are light and loose. Then, learn how to create a grisaille underpainting that brings extraordinary dimension to work. Students will use a limited watercolor palette to enhance their work with harmonious color.

  • • 12? x 9?, Montval Multi-purpose 90 lb paper (available at Artists & Craftsman)
  • • Black Waterproof India Ink (Kohinoor, Rapidograph or Staedtler/Mars- NOT Higgins!)
  • • Watercolor brushes, Rounds #4, 6 and 8
  • • Watercolor paints (Windsor/Newton set of 12 or similar)
  • • Black Uni-Ball Vision pens, fine and micro points (Pens and ink must be opaque and completely waterproof.)
  • • Graphite pencil 2B or softer
  • • Kneaded eraser
  • • Three small, sealable containers for ink washes (glass jars will be available for $2 each on first day of class).
  • All the supplies needed for Steven Reddy’s classes are available at Artists and Craftsman on 45th Ave. He has them stock his supplies specifically.
