BECOME A MONITOR! https://www.gageacademy.org/opportunities/

Monotype and collagraphy are painterly, spontaneous and accessible printmaking techniques! In addition to learning these approaches to printmaking, you’ll experiment with incorporating other mark making methods, print transferring, gold, silver, and copper leaf and unconventional materials like patina solution. You will make your own collagraphic plates with a variety of textural materials. Collagraphy is a printmaking process in which materials are applied to a board with ink or pigment, and then used to make a print onto paper.

  • A $25 materials fee is due to the instructor at the beginning of the course. Students will be provided with proofing paper, but final print paper will be purchased by the students outside of class. Suggested papers are Rives BFK, Legion Stonehenge, and Magnani Pescia. However, these papers are not needed the first week, and students will be free to discuss which paper is right for their project with the instructor.
  • Finally, two pieces of plexiglass the same size will be needed for week 3, August 21st. Any size is fine, but the proofing paper provided is 12"x19", so it should be smaller than that if the students want to use the proofing paper.
  • Please bring paper to make sketches/plans with, and a pencil or pen to draw with.
