Learn to sculpt the portrait and capture likeness and personality in clay. Students will learn to sculpt a full scale portrait in water clay on a fixed armature, while working from a live model. Students will begin by first massing-in the shape of the skull, and learn how to progressively incorporate facial features in relation to this structure. Instruction will include introduction to tools and techniques, proportions, structural anatomy, and learning to closely observe the nuances of the human face, demos, lectures, and individual feedback throughout the class. By the end of the course, each student will have created one portrait from a live model.
