For those ready to start making narrative art, or simply take their figurative work to the next level, this comprehensive overview will guide students through a foundation of illustration technique and studio practice. Beginning with fundamentals of strong visual storytelling through composition and value, this class will also cover perspective, color palette design, illustration work practices, elements of style, and ultimately, how to construct a finished portfolio that highlights the artists' strengths. Learning from an artist working in the field, students will gain insights into the professional practice of illustration and hone their skills through a combination of studio work and assignment. Each week, we will critique the last week's homework, learn new concepts relevant to the new assignment and sketch ideas for the next week's piece. As this is a portfolio class, there will be assignments due each week.
Spring quarter 2020 classes will be held online.
