Learn to create dynamic figures with illustrator Kai Carpenter. This course will draw from mid-century illustration techniques to familiarize students with a structural approach to the figure, working from the inside out. Students will first learn to create and work with a sketch ""mannequin"" (not the wooden kind!); using that structure, students will then learn to accentuate the figure to complement the gesture's mood and narrative.
Spring quarter 2020 classes will be held online.
By working with both model and ""mannequin,"" students will come away with a powerful figure drawing methodology, an understanding of how to plan figurative illustrations from imagination, and how to imbue their figures with life and emotion at any stage of finish. The class will include live demonstrations and individual critique.
