Create your own handmade card with botanicals in colored pencils! We will draw botanicals on white blank card stock in a casual illustrative, loose style with colored pencils and pens. You can draw those beautiful wild flowers blooming in summer or any garden flowers that you find in your garden or yard, and turn them into your original handmade card! You could scan later and print copies of your creation to make multiple cards.

  • SUPPLY LIST
  • · Colored pencils: A set of artist quality colored pencils. I use 72 pencil sets of Faber Castell colored pencils sets along with some Prismacolor pencils. Any brands of artist quality colored pencils would be fine. If you have at least 36 pencils sets, that is good. But if you don’t have many that’s fine too. This is a fun card making workshop. You can do a simple work. Just grab what you have in your drawer along with any color pens you have.
  • · Some fine point color pens or black pens. (Optional) You can use them along with colored pencils.
  • · Paper: Any good quality paper you can do colored pencil work. Strathmore Bristol 300/400 series smooth surface (some call it plate finish) would be good. You could use Hot Pressed Watercolor paper, or Stonehenge, whatever paper you like.
  • You can also draw onto a white black card. You can buy the white blank card stocks from art supply stores or Michaels. They usually come in a package with white blank premade cards and envelopes together.
  • · Pencil Sharpener (A hand-held sharper or electronic sharpener)
  • · Sandpaper block (for sharpening colored pencil tips really sharp)
  • · Erasers. I like Tombow mono zero eraser. If you don’t have one, bring any of your favorite erasers. (Rectangle, click pen type like, kneaded erasers…)
  • · Tracing Paper (If you want to do your sketch first and transfer to good paper)
  • · Graphite Pencils
  • · Artist tape
  • · Magnifying glass (If you have one, it is helpful to work on details. But this is optional.)
  • *** Subject matters
  • Bring a flower or a plant that you want to draw as a subject for your card. Something that you find in your garden, any wild flowers, garden flowers, flowers that you could buy from stores. Or even you can even do a few petals like hydrangeas flowers, rose petals… Lilies are blooming right now. Roses are still out there. Pea flowers are blooming in my neighborhood. Basically, anything that inspires you, anything that can turn into a beautiful botanical handmade cards.
