Working from portrait models and self-portraits, study the essential techniques and concepts of proportion, line, value, volume, structure and composition. Focus on the basic concepts of drawing applied to the human form and learn to think visually, translating what you see into a compelling portrait using simple techniques.

  • · *Rough Newsprint 18” x 24” (to pad your drawing paper, gestures and thumbnails)
  • · 1 or 2 sheets of Strathmore 500 series assorted tint charcoal paper 18” x 24"" (preferably blue, green or gray) Pads are also available.
  • · 1 or 2 sheets of dark charcoal paper, such as Canson Ingres paper - Stygian black or Dark blue, Canson Mi Teintes paper - Indigo Blue #140, Black #425, Fabriano Tiziano paper - Indigo blue #39, Blue night #42, or Black #31, Daler Rowney Canford paper, Plum, Royal blue, Navy blue or Jet Black."
