Like it or not, artists are currently required to write original, well-crafted statements that reflect their artistic goals and methods. These statements accompany applications for juried shows and grants, and submissions to galleries. They are often hung alongside their art in exhibitions. Art critics ALWAYS read these statements for the insights that provide as to the artist’s intentions.
