Explore creative forms of self-expression while learning sumi painting basics with a focus on traditional materials and tools. Basic brush strokes are introduced through the four traditional subjects of bamboo, wild orchid, chrysanthemum, and plum blossom. Mounting technique to prepare paintings for framing will be taught. Students learn to simplify visual elements using minimal brush strokes with sumi (black ink) to interpret images as well as changes in color through tonal value.
