Each class will focus on a different theme, technique or approach to creative expressive modern watercolor portraits. Explore new techniques and special effects for creating expressive and modern watercolor portraits in a relaxed virtual studio environment with step-by-step demonstrations and discussions. From loose expressive brush strokes to controlled realistic glazing, we will explore the foundations of painting portraits in watercolor.

  • •140lb cold press watercolor paper (cotton preferably)
  • •1 watercolor set artist quality
  • *Recommended: Windor & Newton travel set 14 colors.
  • •1 tube primary white watercolor or gouche.
  • 1 round synthetic watercolor brush size 1
  • •Assorted sizes 3-6 synthetic watercolor brush
  • *Recommended : Princeton Series 4350 Synthetic Golden Taklon Round.
  • •1 flat watercolor wash brush / size 1 inch
  • •1 pencil and non-marking erasure
  • •1 roll artist's tape (note: artist's tape is not painter's tape)"

  • •Saral Brand transfer paper: graphite color
  • •Masking fluid: Pebeo Brand drawing gum marker 0.7mm OR Windor and Newton liquid
  • •8X10 assorted reference photos of CLOSE-UP FACES on copy paper.
  • •Natural sea salt(for watercolor effects)
  • •A color printer OR access to a print shop for class print outs.
