We will work to develop your own paintings through a sequential study and discussion of a select group of contemporary and modern painters. The range of artists will include the subjects of figuration, abstraction and landscape. Designed under the premise that all painting is representational, and all representation is abstract, we will approach each painter's work through these terms and discuss their technical practice, their conceptual and aesthetic motivations, and the importance of these artists to today's ongoing practice of painting. We will work on our own individual paintings adopting imagery, concepts and techniques from the selected painters.
