In this 10 week online class we will learn how to use the photograph as a tool to paint the figure with a dynamic and unexpected relationship to the space that it inhabits. We will examine a variety of other artists’ uses of the photograph to create figure paintings and how to incorporate these approaches in our own painting. Students will learn how to use a grid as well as other transferring approaches. We will also explore how the photograph may be used as a point of departure in painting to go beyond accuracy to a process that is more creative, lively, and personal.
