Ever go into a museum, look at a historical painting and wonder, how did they put this
together? From the invention of linear perspective all the way to cubism, students will study the
organizing principles behind historical works of art and how to apply them in a contemporary
context. Some of the topics covered will be visual metaphors, perspective drawing,
how to use reference material, and how to synthesize observation with imagination. The
objective of this course is not simply to better appreciate art history, but to empower students
with a broader visual grammar.
