“Learn the rules like a pro, so you can break them like an artist” --- Pablo Picasso
Drawing is a meditative practice of being present at the moment, observing, interpreting, and developing hand-eye coordination. One should unlearn what they ‘know’ about the appearance of things, and give in to the abstraction and true essence of things, as they are at any given moment, or at a specific frozen moment, when observing photographs.
In this class the students will learn the basic skills of drawing through looking at objects and still images; The students will learn to utilise the B-8B pencils, create a grayscale tonality, build contour lines, shapes, gradation of tone, shadows, proportion, negative-positive space and composition.
