This figure drawing class is designed for artists of all levels who want to expand their skills and experiment with different mediums and techniques. The course focuses on the human form and aims to improve your understanding of anatomy, proportion, and gesture. You will have the opportunity to work from the live model and experiment with various mediums such as graphite, charcoal, and trois crayon. Throughout the course, you will receive individualized feedback and guidance from the instructor to help you refine your skills and achieve your personal goals.

No class on Thursday, May 11th.

  • We recommend that everyone registered for an in-person program at Gage Academy of Art receives full COVID-19 vaccination. Gage leaves the use of face coverings when indoors at the facility up to each individual as masks are not required. 

  • Supports:
    • Drawing board 18” x 24"
    • Rough Newsprint pad 18” x 24” (to pad your drawing paper, and gesture drawing)
    • Strathmore 500 series white charcoal drawing paper 18”x 24” or larger (3 or 4 sheets)
    • Strathmore 500 series Blue Grey or Smoke Grey charcoal drawing paper 18”x 24” or larger (1 or 2 sheets)
    • Strathmore 400 series 80lb white drawing paper 18” x 24" (1 or 2 sheets)
    • 140lb Hot Press watercolor paper 16”x 20” or 22”x 30” (2 sheets)

    Drawing Materials:
    • Kneaded eraser
    • White eraser
    • Tombow Zero Refillable Round Eraser (optional but VERY useful)
    • General’s Charcoal pencils (several HB’s one 2B & 4B)
    • General’s White Charcoal pencil
    • Graphite pencils (4h thru 6B, one each)
    • 1/2” Oil painting bristle brush
    • Blending Stumps (not the spiral wound ones)
    • Willow Charcoal (Med. Sticks 5-6 mm)
    • Conte Crayon Sanguine pencil
    • Conte Crayon Black pencil
    • Conte Crayon White pencil
    • Amber Shellac 1 quart (from Lowe’s or Home Depot)
    • Denatured Alcohol 1 quart (from Lowe’s or Home Depot)
    • 2” Foam Brush
    • Small Snap knife from hardware store
    • Sandpaper (120 or 150 grit sandpaper)
    • 2 bull dog clips
    • Wooden skewer (for sighting and measuring)
