The sketchbook is a tool for artists of any medium, as useful and necessary as paintbrushes or clay. Yet many artists find sketchbooks a challenge to maintain. Learn compelling techniques for building a unique and personal sketchbook habit. Steven Reddy, author of Everyday Sketching and Drawing, has published six artbooks compiled from hundreds of sketchbooks. This class explores dozens of inspiring ideas to motivate you to use the sketchbook as a direct record of ideas and images that can birth larger, more developed artistic projects, or can be viewed as complete artworks on their own.

  • We recommend that everyone registered for an in-person program at Gage Academy of Art receives full COVID-19 vaccination. Gage leaves the use of face coverings when indoors at the facility up to each individual as masks are not required.

  • Multi-media sketchbook suitable for wet media, Watercolor brushes (rounds 4-8) and tray-style watercolor kit. A $10 materials fee is required on first day for all other materials.
