This workshop meets two consecutive Saturday afternoons. Have you ever seen painters with their easels set up outside, capturing a beautiful view? There is a fun and easy way to learn this technique and that is what you will learn in our one day workshop, offered over two weekends this quarter. For each 3 hour session you will learn how to quickly accomplish a finished painting by blocking in a scene…discovering why it is important to finish painting outside in under 2 hours (changing light), as well as learning how to quickly mix colors that match and transport your painting to and from site. This class will prepare you for a fun summer of painting outdoors…or enjoying working from photos you’ve taken in the past. First session will focus on how to capture a scene during hour one, with outside painting in Volunteer Park for the remaining two hours. The second session will focus on painting outside and developing a plein air painting into a studio work.

  • We recommend that everyone registered for an in-person program at Gage Academy of Art receives full COVID-19 vaccination. Gage leaves the use of face coverings when indoors at the facility up to each individual as masks are not required.

  • Students can choose to work EITHER in Acrylics or Oils. Pick the appropriate supply list to order. Not necessary to have both.
