Mentored Studio for Abstract Artists
Class | This program is completed
Are you an intermediate or advanced student who likes the structure of a class, but want to work on your own projects? Do you enjoy feedback in a supportive and creative environment? Join a group of your artistic peers for a weekly painting session in which you work on your own projects, while getting feedback from veteran Gage teaching artist Jeffrey Simmons. Jeffrey has been exhibiting his highly inventive abstractions in galleries and museums since 1995, and he brings both his wealth of experience and insightful comments on your particular work to the class. This class specializes in abstraction, which potentially includes a broad range of styles, from the geometric to the splashy and expressive. Wherever you start, this class will push you further in your own painting journey. The four-hour format is designed for adequate in-class work time. Work sessions are supplemented by occasional readings, discussions and critiques of student work. The instructor presents a weekly slide presentation in response to the work and other issues brought up during class meetings.
- Bring at least one finished drawing or painting, and another that you are working on, along with your preferred supplies. A sketchbook or notebook would also be useful. Additional supplies will be discussed in class.
