The world longs to see, hear, and feel your stories! This class is for painters, sculptors, writers, cartoonists, choreographers, businesspeople, filmmakers...anyone who wants to use their voice to tell tales that make us care. We will explore basic story structures using examples from an array of genres and mediums. With a focus on how to engage your audience, we will help you develop skills to craft compelling narratives. Each class begins with a slide show, talk, and/or video followed by fun, quick techniques to wake up our imaginations. After that, longer assignments followed by group critiques/discussions will ensue. Throughout this course, you are encouraged to express your stories in a medium of your choice, whether drawing, collage, 3D paper sculpture, or writing. You'll receive a variety of handouts, participate in show-and-tell sessions, and engage in optional homework to further hone your skills. The goal is to compile a personal booklet filled with your ideas, stories, sketches, and exercises – to use as a springboard for future creative endeavors.

  • Drawing paper (at least 8.5x11"), drawing pencils of your choice (at least one 2B), kneaded eraser.
Optional: color pencils, glue, scissors, straight edge, color paper, magazines, photocopies, small utility knife, tape, stickers, textures, stencils, rubber stamps and stamp pads. I am sure we will have materials to share, also.
