LOCATION NOTE: This class will be taking place at our brand new South Lake Union location, 2107 Westlake Ave.

Learn magically easy techniques, tips, and methods for painting expressive watercolor pet and animal portraits. Whether your style is loose, expressive, or realistic, you'll hone your brush skills and expand your watercolor techniques in this pet painting workshop. Artist Willow Heath will guide you through the step-by-step process of painting bright and expressive watercolor animal illustrations that capture the likeness and character of your animal with ease. No painting experience necessary and no pet necessary, just come with a sense of humor and willingness to experiment and paint animals.

  • Supplies:
    • 140lb cotton watercolor paper. Recommended: 9x12 Winsor & Newton cotton watercolor block or Blick Premier cotton. Watercolor (or gouache) paints, professional quality. Pan or tube set. Winsor & Newton, Sennelier, Daniel Smith, Holbein etc.
    • Assorted round watercolor brushes sizes 2-8. Recommended: Princeton Select series round or Princeton Velvetouch round.
    • 1 pencil
    • Paper towels
    • 1 Sakura Gelly Roll, White pen size 8 or 10
    • 1 Pebeo Brand drawing gum masking fluid pen SIZE: 0.7mm
    • 1 container for water
    • Saral Brand transfer paper or other graphite transfer paper
    • PRINT: 3-6 images of a pet printed in color full-bleed(to the edge). Print the size you want to paint. These prints should be on standard copy paper and clearly show the animal. They can be big close-ups of just the face or feature the whole body. DO NOT FORGET to bring your reference images.
