Learn how to create delicate, gleaming drawings in silver! Silverpoint is a fascinating drawing medium. Before graphite pencils were developed, artists made drawings with silver wire! The medium can be challenging – you must prepare the surface before the silver will make marks and it is almost impossible to erase – but when you see your drawing shimmer in the light, you’ll know it’s well worth the extra preparation!
In this class, you will:
- Learn how to prepare a ground that will accept the silver
- Plan your drawing and transfer it to the ground
- Learn how to draw with silverpoint and other silver objects
- Create beautiful drawings of trees
- Required:
- Sketchbook for sketches and notes, such as a 9x12 Canson XL Mix Media pad
- Pencils
- A stick of vine charcoal
- Cretacolor Silverpoint Pencil
- 5 x 7 Ampersand Gessobords - Get at least 3
- You will need 5 prepared panels for class - you may substitute 2 or 3 self-prepared panels if you wish (see optional supplies below.)
- Kneaded eraser
- White vinyl eraser
- Xacto knife with curved blade
- A sheet of 220-grit sandpaper
Optional - If you would like to prepare your own panels: 5 x 7 Ampersand Hardbord panels (un-primed)
- Golden Silverpoint Drawing Ground and/or flat white latex house paint
- Small foam roller and/or foam brush
- Dropcloth
- Fine sandpaper 220 grit
