Botanical Habitats - Flora and Fauna
360 Online Class | Available
Botanical habitats show the interconnectedness of living organisms. Exercises will include a variety of subjects and environments, flowers, fruits, fungi, with associated fauna (ex. rabbits with herbs). Styles will range from realistic to thinking outside the box with hybrid design concepts. Composition formats will change weekly, and exercises will build progressively, exploring textures, mood, and design. Composition, proportion, textures, shapes, and patterns will be areas of concentration. Techniques introduced will include the use of pencil, colored pencil, watercolor pencil, and pen. Brands and papers will be discussed. Botanical art history such as Dutch Masters, William Morris and contemporary botanical artists will be introduced. Demonstrations of at least two options will be presented weekly as well as emailed reference handouts and photos provided before each class. Zoom videos will be provided and a Padlet page will be set to display work.
