Painting Hair in Watercolor

LOCATION NOTE: This class will be taking place at our brand new South Lake Union location, 2107 Westlake Ave.
Learn the techniques and tips to painting realistic light filled watercolor hair. You'll paint alongside watercolor artist, Willow Heath while she demonstrates the process, color mixing, and the brush techniques she utilizes to create detailed hair portraits. Learn how to add depth, texture, and light to your watercolor hair. Channel your inner Andrew Wyeth in a relaxed art studio environment.
- • 140lb cotton watercolor paper. Recommended: 9x12 block, Arches or Blick Premier cotton.
• Watercolor paints, professional quality. Pan or tube set. Winsor & Newton, Sennelier, Daniel Smith, Holbein etc.
• Assorted round watercolor brushes assorted sizes 2-12. Recommended: Princeton Select series round or Princeton Velvetouch round.
• 1 flat watercolor wash brush size 1 inch.
• 1 pencil
• 1 roll of 3M Scotch Delicate Surface Painter's Washi Tape .7
• Paper towels
• Scissors
• 1 Sakura Gelly Roll, White pen size 8 or 10
• 1 Pebeo Brand drawing gum masking fluid pen 0.7mm
• 1 container for water
• Saral Brand transfer paper or other graphite transfer paper.
Optional photo references: Color copies of hair to paint from. Paint from your own photo of the back of hair. Must be in focus and cropped to only the head and neck(from the back) on a 8.5x11 piece of standard copy paper. Must be printed in color, full bleed/to the edges on copy paper. Look for photos with shiny hair, mid length or in a bun.
